Recruiting In Social Spaces….

When recruiters look at sourcing and candidates look at job roles, are they looking in all the right places. There are an abundance of ways to find jobs online but nowadays companies are waking up to the prospect that job searching has moved online and it’s less about picking up the local free sheet and more about looking at Linked in. The online job market is a fast paced landscape, which is constantly evolving and finding new ways to source/place talent. Other than conventional job sites & boards, social sites are fast becoming the new go to, to find jobs.

With sites like Linked in, Worky, Facebook, Google+, Twitter and more being utilised by employers, recruiters and candidates alike. The social job search has seen a massive increase in pace as it has become so easily accessible through mobile devices (smart phones, tablets and laptops).

If you take us here at Lipton Fleming for example, we have a presence on many sites including:

http://www.buttonshut.comhttps://twitter.com/#!/LiptonFleminghttp://www.facebook.com/liptonfleming#!/pages/Lipton-Fleming/160260937347209

Having a presence on these social sites among others; increases your chance as an employer, recruiter or candidate of being seen. By having a presence we don’t just mean signing up and an occasional post or a quick dabble at researching roles, it means actively following and searching out companies or actively posting roles and engaging your communities. Also becoming aware of the latest tips and tricks for recruiters this might be rolling out the ‘apply with linked in button’ and candidates might want to use social alerts to search for job roles.

The power of social networks is fast becoming the ultimate force to be reckoned with and we have to embrace it as a two way relationship between recruiters and candidates, so make sure your eyes and ears are open.

Is attack the greatest form of defence??? Surely not.

Holy macaroni - we are two nights on from what has been cited as being some of the most heinous riots London has seen. People seem to be itching to have a voice or a face and rather than stand still and strong we have seen people brutally looting, vandalising and ruining properties. This country is on the cusp of another tough few months due to apparent impending economic slow down – add to that thuggish behaviour, animalistic brutality and we have the makings of some challenging times ahead.
These riots got me thinking to the way in which business is conducted. Do we ever really appreciate the hand we get dealt and accept it, work it to the best advantage we can or do we moan, whinge, begrudge and despise those who happen to have been dealt a better hand? Throughout my career I have always stood by the belief that whatever life throws you, you can genuinely make a meal out of most things so best to get on with it and relish every challenge as it comes your way.

Perhaps a slow down in the economy or a youth force with some resentment to the lack of opportunity jumping infront of them is disgruntling, however what will happen if everytime something goes wrong we all jump onboard and ruin things even further by spoiling the little bit of fun, joy, energy some people have.

When you think of the suffering in other countries fighting wars and battling real hardships day in day out. We look at Somalia and the immense poverty, desperation and real depravity for even a fresh cup of water and some basic level of nutrients and then we flick back to our own domestic TV stations and realise that we have more than many would care to dream for and yet we still can’t help but ruin it for ourselves.

Has the world gone mad? are we oblivious to our own need to build, develop and grow things or have we started to see the demise of the real British spirit and are we several steps closer to despots/dictates/spoilt brats intent on ensuring if we can’t have it all then no one can.

Here’s to relishing the here and now, embracing all that life throws at us and working it to our best advantage. Life is short, time is of the essence for all those keen to stand up and be counted – Make one big difference today and that is to join the revolution for a better Britain. One where regardless of the fighting, the rioting, the misery, the bitterness, we stand tall, appreciate lifes little blessings and take every single thing that is free in life as a pure pleasure. As Forest Gump Said, “life is a like a box of chocolates” I will not be a miserable beast even if every single chocolate happens to be a coffee cream. I will simply offer those chocolates out to as many people that crave those ghastly flavoured chocolates as a blessing. One man’s tat is another man’s treasure.
Celebrate and savour everything you get thrown. Make it glisten and work 100% in your favour.

Turning up isn’t enough, turn up and deliver….

LF Go HardI once heard the saying GO HARD…Or GO HOME and instantly thought that makes a lot of sense.  In terms of everything I do in my life I feel it is important to give it everything I have or not to bother at all.

Every day at work or in life there is a new battle, not only for me, for my candidates as well.  Like every other recruitment consultant I have been on the other side, unlike every other recruitment consultant I respect and remember being on the other side.  I may not be a doctor or in the armed forces however every day gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on my life and somebody else’s life.  This brings me to another saying…with great power comes great responsibility.  This is why turning up just isn’t enough.

Nothing is a given, and I am not the only recruitment consultant the candidate can speak to, so if I don’t push myself to turn up and deliver day in and day out, somebody else will.  The only loser in this scenario is me. I won’t allow that to be the case.

Don’t take my word for it, many before me and many after me will and have delivered like you wouldn’t believe…what if Ghandi just turned up? What if Martin Luther King or Mohammad Ali just turned up?  We would be a fair few heroes short in a very different world.

So turn up and when you do, look around and make today your day…DELIVER.
